As the summer does a quick turn into autumn, I've been spending time in the studio currently cutting one of my favorite all time songs...which shall remain a secret for the time being. Covering a song is always iffy, especially when the original is such a classic, but I think I've got a good balance of my own style while channeling the original vocalist's masterpiece, almost copping it in places, but in a good way I hope.

Only problem with recording is that it hypes me up and ruins the farmer hours I've been keeping most of the summer. I swear I think there's a physiological reason why the creative juices flow so much better when the town is asleep. I could stay up for days straight once I'm in the zone, if I didn't force myself to pull the plugs out of the wall. No way am I a natural born night owl, I like the morning too much, but if I was running my days by song work rather than the clock, I might never sleep while working.

I guess I'm not alone: http://www.abc.net.au/science/news/stories/2006/1810399.htm

Yeaaaaaaaaaa!, to back in the studio.  Looking forward to the results.

Very interesting article.  When I was very young and during summer vacation and other times when activity did not dictate when I went to bed, I always went to bed very early and got up very early.  As time went on, I was intermediate.  When early work hours dictated, I went to bed on the early side.  Now, I have to force myself to go to sleep, so I can get up to go to work.  I do tend to write at night and be really into the flow when it's time to go to sleep.  My brother-in-law is a playwrite who writes best between midnight and 3am.  There may really be something to that.

Do we get to guess what the classic is?  I know how you hate that but here's my guess:  Eric Carmen/Rasberries something something...Never Gonna Fall in Love Again, All by Myself.  Well that's 2 guesses.  Maybe those are my favorites!  Will I win a guitar pick?  Time will tell.

OK, a 3rd guess on the classic, my last, another EC.  Love is All That Matters.  More pleasant note but melancholy has its place too.

Nice songs, CAT, but nope.

The song I've cut (which is now Dee Oh En EEE!) is one from one of my top fave vocalists of all-time.

OK, if we're playing 20 questions, I'll throw in two questions:

1) a fave male or a fave female artist?

2) pre-1960; 1960-1975; post-1975?

Just found this thread -- thrilled to hear of the studio time and am eager to hear what comes from it. I'm also intrigued by what the cover song is and who the favorite vocalist could be.

Kyle, I'll be seeing you soon in California...maybe you'll treat us to a preview?

PS - listening to Jonesin' for Zilah right now, one of your best!

Could it be something from the Carpenters?

Was his first name Gerard something, as I remember KV when he use to put his You tube links up for us to see that he mentioned this guy , Just musing
